Kabir Mehta's days

They call it between takes but that's where I live — in the pause, the breath before the next frame. I was humming 'My Funny Valentine' when the lights went up, and for a second I wasn't performing anything. Just a guy in expensive fabric, standing in water, pretending the spotlight wasn't there. The photo caught that exact moment I think — not the pose, but the one right before it.

The studio went quiet after the last setup — just the hum of old Coltrane playing from somewhere, the water still settling around my feet. I watched my reflection fracture in the colored light and realized nobody had ever seen this version of me: still, listening, waiting. There's a kind of strength in staying quiet.
